Meta's QuestPro2 Headset Update

TapTechNews May 22nd news, according to the Seoul Economic Daily report, Meta's QuestPro2 head-mounted display will be OEMed by LG, but the related head-mounted display has been postponed to be released between 2025 and 2027, because Meta doesn't want to launch too many head-mounted displays in one period of time to affect the market.

Referring to TapTechNews' previous report, the MetaQuestPro2 may adopt a recently launched LG VR-specific OLEDoS (MicroOLED) display panel with a brightness of up to 10,000 nits. This panel is only 1.3 inches in size, roughly equivalent to a coin. In addition to the 10,000-nit brightness, it also has a 4K-level 4000 ppi resolution and has achieved more than 97% of the DCI-P3 color gamut.

In addition, there was news this morning that Qualcomm is providing test samples of the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen3 (SXR2330) and XR2+ Gen3 chips (SXR2350) to VR head-mounted display manufacturers. Considering the product cycle, there is a certain probability that the QuestPro2 head-mounted display will be equipped with related chips.

However, compared to MetaQuest3, the sales of the first-generation QuestPro are not optimistic. The initial listing price of this head-mounted display is $1,500 (currently about 10,905 yuan). At that time, Meta claimed that the QuestPro was only sold at the cost price, but by March 2023, Meta adjusted the price of the related head-mounted display to $999 (TapTechNews note: currently about 7,233 yuan), but still had poor sales. Previously, there was also a rumor that the MetaQuestPro product line would be abandoned, but currently the news of the Seoul Economic Daily has proved that this head-mounted display has not been cancelled.
