China's Telecommunications Industry Update Revenue Growth and User Developments in 2024

TapTechNews August 24th news, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology announced today the economic operation situation of China's telecommunications industry from January to July 2024. The cumulative telecommunications business revenue reached 1,035.4 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 3%. The three basic telecommunications enterprises completed the revenue of Internet broadband business at 159.3 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 5.2%. The three basic telecommunications enterprises completed the revenue of mobile data traffic business at 381.7 billion yuan, with a year-on-year decrease of 2.1%.

TapTechNews noted that in the development situation of telecommunications users, the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology mentioned that the fixed broadband access users grew steadily, and the proportion of gigabit users was nearly 30%. By the end of July, the total number of fixed Internet broadband access users of the three basic telecommunications enterprises reached 656 million, an increase of 19.77 million compared with the end of last year. Among them:

Fixed Internet broadband access users with an access rate of 100 Mbps or more reached 622 million, accounting for 94.8% of the total number of users;

Fixed Internet broadband access users with an access rate of 1000 Mbps or more reached 190 million, an increase of 26.84 million compared with the end of last year, accounting for 29% of the total number of users, and the proportion increased by 3.3 percentage points compared with the end of last year.

Under the continuous growth of high-speed users, the average household access bandwidth reached 491.5 Mbps per household, with a year-on-year growth of 16.6%.

In terms of mobile phones, by the end of July, the total number of mobile phone users of the three basic telecommunications enterprises and China Radio and Television reached 1.772 billion, an increase of 28.12 million compared with the end of last year. Among them, the number of 5G mobile phone users reached 950 million, an increase of 128 million compared with the end of last year, accounting for 53.6% of the mobile phone users, and the proportion increased by 7 percentage points compared with the end of last year.

In terms of the cellular Internet of Things, by the end of July, the three basic telecommunications enterprises developed 2.547 billion cellular Internet of Things terminal users, an increase of 215 million compared with the end of last year, accounting for 59% . The total number of IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) users reached 405 million, an increase of 4.373 million compared with the end of last year.
