UnionPay QuickPass Now Supported by Hong Kong MTR Network

TapTechNews August 24th news, starting today, the Hong Kong MTR (Mass Transit Railway) network officially supports UnionPay QuickPass for passing through the gates. Users can pass through the designated gates to take the MTR (except for Airport Express stations) by holding a physical card or a mobile phone with a bound card.

TapTechNews learned that since 2022, the MTR has opened the service of supporting UnionPay App's travel code for passing through the gates by swiping the code, and this cooperation additionally opens the service of supporting UnionPay QuickPass cards for passing through the gates.

Passengers can flexibly choose UnionPay credit cards that support QuickPass function, or UnionPay mobile QuickPass products such as HuaweiPay and ApplePay that are bound with UnionPay credit cards, and swipe the phone to pass through the gates at the gates marked with light blue logos to take the train without buying tickets separately, and the fare will be deducted from the used UnionPay card according to the itinerary.

According to the official public account of UnionPay International, currently UnionPay payment services have covered the local and cross-border transportation systems in Hong Kong and Macau, and local major means of transportation such as KMB,城巴, Long Win Bus, trams and Macau public buses, as well as cross-border transportation such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High-Speed Rail, Shenzhen-Hong Kong cross-border buses, and Hong Kong-Macau jetfoils have all supported UnionPay.
