Israeli Mobile Forensics Company Cellebrite Can't Crack iOS17.4 iPhones

TapTechNews July 18th news, an internal document disclosed by the tech media 404Media this Wednesday in April 2024 shows that the Israeli mobile forensics company Cellebrite temporarily cannot crack the iPhone that has been upgraded to iOS17.4.

TapTechNews note: Mobile forensics companies usually do not announce their tools nor detailed information about which iPhone models can be cracked, and often use ambiguous terms in marketing materials.

And the disclosed file this time was shared by Cellebrite to its customers, showing that in this 'cat and mouse' game, Apple continuously fixes vulnerabilities, while hackers and these forensics companies continuously look for new vulnerabilities.

According to the disclosed document details, the Cellebrite company cannot currently crack the locked state iPhone running iOS17.4 and higher versions at this stage, and the file indicates that it is in 'under research', which means that using Cellebrite's tools cannot unlock the iPhone.

For iOS17.1 to iOS17.3.1 versions, the Cellebrite company can achieve cracking on iPhone XR, iPhone 11 series.

The file says that Cellebrite has recently added support for the latest SupersonicBF [brute force] function for these models, which claims to be able to access the phone quickly. But for iPhone 12 and above models running these operating systems, Cellebrite says support is 'coming soon'.
