Samsung Electronics and Its Largest Union Fail to Reach Wage Agreement

TapTechNews August 1st news, Yonhap reported that sources disclosed yesterday that Samsung Electronics Company failed to make a breakthrough in the wage negotiation with its largest trade union. It is not clear whether the two sides will continue to negotiate, and the trade union said it will continue to strike.

The management of Samsung Electronics and the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU) in South Korea have started a new round of negotiations since Monday this week, and their last negotiation failed to reach an agreement last week.

NSEU previously proposed to conduct a three-day final negotiation starting from Monday on the condition that Samsung Company presents a satisfactory negotiation plan. Samsung Electronics said that it is difficult to accept the trade union's request, but is willing to actively conduct dialogue during the negotiation.

It is reported that NSEU requires all members to increase the basic salary by 5.6%, guarantee vacation on the trade union establishment day, and compensate for the economic losses caused by the strike. Samsung Electronics emphasizes its commitment to building a win-win labor-management relationship and proposes a 5.1% wage increase.

According to TapTechNews' previous report, this strike started on July 8th and became an indefinite strike since July 10th. Although it has been more than twenty days since the strike, Samsung Electronics reported that the impact on production is very small.
