TSMC's Fab21 Wafer Fab in Arizona Starts Operation for iPhone14Pro Chips

TapTechNews September 18th news, sources said that yesterday (September 17th), Tim Culpan published a blog post on the Substack platform, revealing that the TSMC Fab21 wafer fab in Arizona has begun to operate, and the first stage trial production is suitable for the A16 SoC of the iPhone14Pro.

The TSMC wafer fab in Arizona has been under construction for many years, and the planning of this project can be traced back to 2020. After four years, it is said that the facility is now in operation and has begun to produce chips for Apple.

TSMC Fab21's current production is mainly for the testing nature of this facility, but it is expected to increase production in the next few months. If everything goes according to plan, the Arizona factory will reach the production target sometime in the first half of 2025.

TapTechNews learned from the report that the manufactured chips are said to use the same N4P process as the existing A16 chip, which is regarded as an enhanced version of the 5-nanometer process rather than the 4-nanometer production process.

The TSMC spokesperson said to Culpan: The Arizona project is progressing smoothly as planned, but they did not disclose that Apple is the first customer produced at this location.
