Porsche Unveils New Electric Macan Versions with Enhanced Features

TapTechNews July 16th news, Porsche's first all-electric Macan has officially started production in Germany. To attract a wider range of consumers, Porsche has launched two new versions for this car - a lighter rear-wheel drive version and a dual-motor 4S version.

Macan is a compact luxury SUV under Porsche, and has been one of its important models in the past decade, positioned lower than the larger Cayenne. In the past decade, Porsche has launched many versions including the MacanTurbo, but has never launched an all-electric version.

With Porsche's transformation to full electrification, the all-electric version of Macan is highly anticipated. After years of research and development, in January this year, Porsche finally released the all-electric Macan based on the Volkswagen Group's PPE architecture. Thanks to the excellent range (about 381 miles on the EPA), shortly after its launch, the electric Macan of Porsche received more than 10,000 orders.

Currently, the all-electric Macan sold by Porsche includes two versions: Macan 4 and MacanTurbo. In May, the factory in Leipzig, Germany officially started producing new cars, and then deliveries began in the EU region.

Two months later, Porsche also announced the launch of two additional all-electric Macan versions: the rear-wheel drive version and the 4S version positioned in the mid-range.

The rear-wheel drive version launched this time is the lightest model in the entire series (about 243 pounds lighter than Macan 4), equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack and the rear motor from Macan 4, which can output 250 kilowatts of power. The maximum torque is 420 lb-ft, the 0-60 mph acceleration time is 5.4 seconds, and the maximum speed can reach 136 mph. Both new models support a maximum charging power of 270 kilowatts, and can complete fast charging from 10% to 80% in about 21 minutes.

The Macan 4S with a higher-performance all-wheel drive version has also joined the electric Macan model lineup. This version is positioned between Macan 4 and MacanTurbo, equipped with a brand new rear axle motor and a more powerful 600-ampere silicon carbide pulse inverter. The front motor remains the same as the previous two Macan versions, and the combined system output power is 330 kilowatts, which can reach 380 kilowatts in overboost. In the launch control mode, the maximum torque of Macan 4S can reach 575 lb-ft, and the 0-60 mph acceleration time is only 3.9 seconds, and the maximum speed is 149 mph. In contrast, the maximum speeds of Macan 4 and MacanTurbo are 136 mph and 161 mph respectively. The new car is also standard with adaptive air suspension and Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) electronic damping control.

In addition, Porsche also offers a new off-road package for all versions of the electric Macan. This package includes a redesigned front bumper, which can increase the approach angle to 17.5 degrees and increase the ground clearance in the standard state by 10 millimeters to 195 millimeters, and up to 225 millimeters at most.

The new versions of the all-electric Macan can be booked starting today, and deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. TapTechNews noted that with the addition of the new versions, the price of the all-electric Macan has also changed:

Macan rear-wheel drive version: $77,295 (about 562,000 yuan currently)

Macan 4: $80,450 (about 585,000 yuan currently)

Macan 4S: $86,895 (about 632,000 yuan currently)

MacanTurbo: $93,150 (about 677,000 yuan currently)
