Intel to Phase Out PonteVecchio GPU and Focus on Gaudi2/3 Products

TapTechNews May 15th news, the source ServeTheHome recently published a blog post, stating that Intel notified partners last week that it will gradually phase out the PonteVecchio GPU and concentrate more capacity on the Gaudi2/3 products.

Intel officially announced the PonteVecchio GPU in 2022, using 1 trillion transistors, to bring the company into more mainstream artificial intelligence and high-performance computing applications.

TapTechNews note: Intel's PonteVecchio GPU contains as many as 47 chips (including 16 Xe-HPC architecture computing chips, 8 Rambocache chips, 2 Xe base chips, 11 EMIB connection chips, 2 XeLink I/O chips, and 8 HBM chips), totaling a staggering 1 trillion transistors. Such a large specification will consume a large amount of power.

The 47 chips of PonteVecchio will be manufactured using different process nodes, including TSMC's 7nm or 5nm process, as well as Intel's 7nm and 10nm process, and integrated with EMIB and Foveros 3D packaging.
