Samsung Display Unveils New Stretchable MicroLED Screen Prototype at IMID 2024

TapTechNews August 23rd, according to the video on the official YouTube account of Samsung Display, the company showcased a new type of MicroLED screen prototype that can be stretched outward in the Z-axis direction at the largest academic conference in the display field in South Korea, IMID 2024.

Samsung Display said that this stretchable screen supports up to a 25% elongation rate, and can return to a flat surface when not needing to display three-dimensional solid figures. In addition, this screen prototype also has a pixel density of 120 PPI, and both parameters rank first among stretchable displays.

In the introduction video, Samsung Display used this stretchable MicroLED screen prototype to showcase the formation and general landform of Jeju Island, a volcanic island in South Korea. The stretchable nature of this prototype product enables it to clearly display three-dimensional structures that are difficult to visually represent with traditional 2D displays.

Referring to previous reports of TapTechNews, LG Display also released a stretchable screen prototype in 2022. The product demonstrated by LG Display at that time had a 20% elongation rate and a pixel density of 100 PPI.
