US Chip Giant Intel Gets $3.5 Billion Federal Funding for Advanced Chip Production

TapTechNews September 15th news, according to a report by Bloomberg citing informed sources, the US chip giant Intel has recently received a whopping $3.5 billion (TapTechNews note: currently about 24.858 billion Chinese yuan) in federal funding to produce advanced chips for the US Department of Defense. This funding comes from a project known as the 'Secure Enclave', which aims to transfer the production of leading military application processors back to the US.

US Chip Giant Intel Gets .5 Billion Federal Funding for Advanced Chip Production_0

Intel is currently the only company in the US that produces leading-node chips. The company's most advanced process technology - 18A - is expected to begin mass production in 2025 and is expected to become the world's most advanced manufacturing technology. Because the US military and intelligence agencies need to produce advanced chips domestically, they have created the 'Secure Enclave' project.

The 'Secure Enclave' project focuses on producing cutting-edge chips for defense and intelligence purposes in the 'secure environment' in the US. Ideally, these chips should be produced in a separate facility isolated from the production of other components. Due to the cost of a modern factory, building a cleanroom dedicated solely to military-grade chips is almost unaffordable, and Intel seems to have chosen another way to comply with the security requirements of the Department of Defense.

It is worth noting that although the 'Secure Enclave' project focuses on advanced chips and leading manufacturing processes, as implied by the Bloomberg report, the project also covers other technologies.

The above-mentioned informed sources pointed out that this grant may be announced as early as next week.
