The Construction Progress of Nanzhong Expressway and Its Impact on Guangzhou-Shenzhen Transportation

The Wanqingsha Branch of Nanzhong Expressway will be open to traffic in less than 100 days. TapTechNews learned that the Wanqingsha Branch of Nanzhong Expressway is the interface for the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link to access Guangzhou Nansha. In order to connect this interface, Guangzhou Nansha is currently striving to complete the improvement of the travel speed and capacity of the backbone municipal road network before the opening of the Wanqingsha Branch.
At present, Nansha has started several municipal projects such as the rapid transformation of Wanhuansi Road, Phoenix Avenue, and Shinan Road (Phase I), forming a central axis rapid large passage from north to south in Nansha, realizing a rapid connection between the main urban area of Nansha and the Wanqingsha Branch of Nanzhong Expressway. Among them, the Phoenix Avenue rapid transformation project, as a key node project, is expected to be fully open to traffic on August 30th.
The total length of Nanzhong Expressway is 32.41 kilometers, which consists of the main line and the Wanqingsha Branch, and will form a Y-shaped road network with the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link. The main line spans Guangzhou and Zhongshan cities, reaching Zhuhai in the south, Jiangmen in the west, and Dongguan in the east. The branch is seamlessly connected with the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Link and can reach Shenzhen. The supporting Wanqingsha Service Area of Nanzhong Expressway will also provide convenient services for passing drivers and passengers.
According to the plan, the entire Nanzhong Expressway is proposed to be completed and opened to traffic this year. By then, Guangzhou and Shenzhen will realize a land direct connection for the first time. After the project is completed and opened to traffic, it can reach Shenzhen from Guangzhou Nansha within 20 minutes, and it can reach the urban area of Zhongshan in 15 minutes.
