Nintendo WiiU Console Discontinues Repair Service in 2024

TapTechNews July 4th news, the WiiU is the first high-definition game console released by Nintendo in November 2012 and belongs to the eighth-generation console. It was discontinued at the end of the year with the official announcement of the Switch in October 2016, and it is also the third shortest life cycle game console in Nintendo's history (the second is the PanasonicQ, and the first is the VirtualBoy).

Nintendo has just officially announced that since the spare parts inventory for repairs has been completely exhausted, as of July 3, 2024, it will no longer accept repair services for the WiiU console and peripheral equipment (including the WiiU GamePad).

According to public information, the WiiU is the first home game console in Nintendo's history to support 1080p high-definition resolution. It is equipped with 2GB of RAM and will use half for the WiiU's operating system, integrates the WiiU GamePad controller, a liquid crystal display with touch function, and combines the characteristics of traditional game controllers and tablet computers.

Due to the lack of support from third-party game manufacturers compared to the game consoles launched by competitors in the same period, resulting in a shortage of game lineups for the WiiU, which led to the WiiU's poor performance in the market. The sales volume during its life cycle is only about 13.56 million, far less than the previous-generation console Wii (TapTechNews note: sales exceeded 100 million).
