ByteDance Secretly Preparing to Establish Large Model Research Institute and Recruiting Talents

TapTechNews August 27th news, according to AI Technology Review reports, ByteDance is secretly preparing to establish a large model research institute and is actively recruiting talents.

Insiders said that there are already external AI experts joining the large model research institute, reporting directly to Zhang Yiming.

Since last year, ByteDance has successively announced the progress of related work on large models to the outside world. According to TapTechNews' previous report, in August 2023, ByteDance's self-developed underlying large model Skylark went online, and then launched the AI conversation product Doubao. In May this year, ByteDance released the Doubao large model family and launched a price war, claiming to be 99.3% cheaper than the industry.

It is reported that in the past, the talents of ByteDance's large model team were mostly from ByteDance's internal business lines, including Search, Douyin, Watermelon, TikTok, etc., and there were few cases of newly recruiting the number one position from outside the company. However, the talent methodology of the large model research institute is different from before, spending a lot of money to recruit talents from outside.

The former core member of Facewall Intelligence, Qin Yujia, and the former core member of ZeroOne Everything, Huang Wenhao, have joined the ByteDance large model team. It is currently not clear whether they belong to the large model research institute.
