Apple iOS Maps to Display Real-Time Traffic Info in Japan, iOS 18 to Feature Topographic Maps

TapTechNews August 8th news, according to the press release issued by Apple on the 7th, the Maps built into Apple iOS will display JR East Japan, Tokyo Metro, and other institutions that provide services through ODPT, more than 20 railway, bus, and tram lines in the metropolitan area of real-time traffic information.

Through the real-time traffic information update on the map, users can view detailed timetables, real-time departure and arrival times, and transfer routes to help plan the itinerary. In addition, the map will also provide important real-time traffic information such as suspensions and delays, and users do not need to perform a software update. When users plan a transportation route, detailed data of real-time traffic information will be displayed.

Apple said that with the release of iOS 18 this autumn, users across Japan will be able to explore topographic maps including contour lines, terrain shading, and hiking paths on the iPhone.

Based on previous reports by TapTechNews, Apple has successively launched a series of functions in Japan this year, such as TaptoPay contactless payment, introducing the identification function into the Apple Wallet, and emergency satellite distress calling.
