Microsoft to Phase Out Control Panel in Windows, Replaced by Settings App

These features will be added to the Windows obsolete feature list, and the most recent one is Paint3D, which Microsoft announced is about to be phased out. Similar to Paint3D, Microsoft seems to also want to phase out the Control Panel as soon as possible.

As early as 2011, there were rumors that Microsoft planned to replace the Control Panel with the PC Settings. Although the design of the PC Settings is more suitable for touch operations, the Control Panel still exists.

Then in 2015, there were rumors that Microsoft might finally abandon the Control Panel because a senior Microsoft official confirmed that Settings will eventually replace the Control Panel. However, due to some functions not yet migrated, the Control Panel still exists.

It wasn't until a few days ago that Microsoft finally officially released relevant information on its webpage. On a new support page about various native Windows configuration tools, Microsoft finally stated that the Control Panel is being deprecated and replaced by the Settings app.

In addition, Microsoft also added that due to some compatibility reasons, the old applications still exist. Microsoft wrote: The Control Panel is being deprecated and replaced by the Settings application, which provides a more modern and streamlined experience. Tip: Although the Control Panel still exists to ensure compatibility and provide access to some settings that have not yet been migrated, we encourage you to use the Settings app as much as possible.

According to TapTechNews, the Control Panel was first introduced in Windows 1.0 in 1985.
