Google TV Streamer The First to Run Android 14 for TV System

TapTechNews August 9th news, the tech media AndroidAuthority today (August 9th) posted a blog post, indicating that Google TV Streamer is the first device to run the Android 14 for TV system.

Android 14 for TV, also known as Android TV 14, was released by Google at the I/O Developer Conference this year, a special version of Android 14 specifically optimized for TVs.

Google did not disclose detailed information about the Android 14 for TV system at the I/O Developer Conference, did not announce which devices can be upgraded, and did not even release a beta version, just provided a picture to simulate running in Android Studio.

Source said that although the Google TV Streamer is only equipped with 4GB of memory and still runs a 32-bit Android system, this set-top box runs the Android 14 for TV system.

Reduce standby power consumption: The Android 14 for TV system introduces two modes of low energy consumption and optimized energy, disabling certain functions when the TV is not in use to reduce standby power consumption.

Improve accessibility environment: The Android 14 for TV system adds color correction mode, enhanced text options and better navigation options.

Improve operating performance: Google has improved the startup delay, shortened the cold start time of the launcher, optimized the vertical and horizontal scrolling performance of the main screen, accelerated the data loading speed, and reduced the storage space usage by 20%.

Improve multitasking ability: Introduced the picture-in-picture mode.

Improve the remote control experience: Added the native FindMyRemote function, which can be activated by pressing the button on the back of the Google TV streaming media player.

Optimize network support: The Android 14 for TV system supports Android's Thread network stack, allowing this set-top box to act as a Thread border router.

In addition to these changes, Android 14 for TV also inherits many underlying platform changes in the basic version of Android 14. One of them is the new API that allows applications to embed custom activities in the device control interface.
