Intel's Software Progress and Future Plans $1 Billion Goal by 2027

TapTechNews July 12th news, according to Reuters, Greg Lavender, the CTO (Chief Technology Officer) of Intel, said that Intel's foray into the software field is progressing smoothly, and by the end of 2027, the company's cumulative software sales will reach $1 billion (about 7.268 billion Chinese yuan currently).

In 2021, Lavender left VMware and joined Intel and was responsible for the software strategy of this chipmaker. Intel's software revenue exceeded $100 million in 2021 (TapTechNews note: about 727 million Chinese yuan currently).

The software revenue still accounts for a very small proportion in the overall business of the company. The financial data of Intel's first quarter of 2024 shows that the company's revenue in the first quarter reached $12.72 billion (about 92.45 billion Chinese yuan currently), an increase of 9% year-on-year.

Lavender said that his strategy is to focus on providing services in artificial intelligence, performance, and security, and the company has been investing in these three areas.

Intel supports the open source plan of software and tools that drive various AI chips. Lavender said that Intel is contributing to Triton (a project led by OpenAI), and Triton is already running on Intel's existing GPUs and will work on the company's next-generation AI chips.
