Microsoft Allegedly Inducing Windows 11 Users to Switch to Bing

TapTechNews August 8th news, according to WindowsCentral, Microsoft is taking some measures to induce Windows 11 users to switch to the Bing search engine.

Although Bing and Edge do not occupy a dominant position in their respective fields, the Windows operating system has a 72.08% desktop market share. Earlier this year, Mozilla accused Microsoft of using 'harmful designs' and deceptive means to gain an unfair advantage for the Edge browser.

And now, Microsoft seems to have new tricks. It is reported that Microsoft is using the Bing Wallpaper app to'recommend different browser settings'. A pop-up notification suggests that users set Bing as the default search engine for Windows 11 to obtain fast and safe search results.

TapTechNews noted that the WindowsCentral editor tried to reproduce this situation but failed, but said that the Bing Wallpaper app does default to checking the option of setting Bing as the homepage and default search engine. Users should uncheck before installation to avoid accidental setting changes.

Reddit posts point out that accepting Microsoft's'recommended settings' will automatically install the Bing extension in Google Chrome. If this is true, this may be another means for Microsoft to increase Bing users, even at the expense of promoting its own services in a competitor's browser.

Currently, this issue seems to be limited to users in the Windows Insider Beta channel, and Microsoft may fix it in subsequent updates.
