The Price of Battery-Grade Lithium Carbonate in China Drops Below 80,000 Yuan/Ton

TapTechNews August 5th news, data released by Shanghai Steel Union shows that as of August 2nd, the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate has dropped by 1000 yuan/ton compared to the previous time, with an average price of 79,500 yuan/ton, falling below the 80,000 yuan/ton mark.

Since the price reached a high point of 600,000 yuan/ton in November 2022, the price of lithium carbonate has shown a continuous downward trend, and this price drop has once again refreshed the new low since its listing.

Comprehensively according to the news of Securities Daily and Dongchedi today, the production of lithium carbonate has a strong seasonal variation pattern, increasing production in summer and reducing production in winter, and currently it is the peak season for lithium carbonate production. Due to the large number of sources of lithium carbonate production, lithium salt enterprises find it difficult to reach a consensus on production reduction actions. This also means that there is still a possibility of further decline in the price of lithium carbonate.

According to TapTechNews's understanding, lithium carbonate, as the main raw material for the production of lithium-ion batteries, has experienced an explosion along with the growth of new energy vehicles in recent years. In November 2022, the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate once approached a high point of nearly 600,000 yuan/ton. Then it quickly entered a downward channel, and in April 2023, the price of battery-grade lithium carbonate dropped to 200,000 yuan/ton.

Research report released by TrendForce in July this year shows that as the price of raw materials continues to decline, the battery cost drops again, and the price of power battery cells will continue to decline.
