Global Notebook PC Shipments Show Growth in Q2 2024, But Chinese Market Lags

TapTechNews August 1st news, the analysis agency TechInsights released a report today. In Q2 2024, the global notebook PC shipments increased by 4% year-on-year to 49.7 million units. This is the third consecutive quarter of growth for the notebook PC market after experiencing declines for most of 2022 and 2023. The shipment growth in most regions is mainly due to strong commercial demand, but the shipment volume in the Chinese market is still declining.

The report said that as the service end date of Windows 10 (TapTechNews note: October 2025) approaches, the commercial demand will remain strong and enterprises will play a dominant role in the PC update cycle. Although it is expected that the notebook PC shipments will continue to grow in the second half of 2024 and throughout 2025, TechInsights expects the Chinese PC market to resume growth only by the middle of 2025.

1. In Q2 2024, Lenovo continued to lead with 11.6 million notebook PC shipments, an increase of 6% year-on-year.

2. HP followed closely with a market share of 22%.

3. Dell is the only manufacturer that showed a year-on-year decline, but the decline was relatively small (-1%), and its notebook PC shipments were 8.3 million units.

4. Apple's recently launched M3 MacBook Air contributed to the brand's growth in this quarter, with a year-on-year increase of 6%.

5. Acer achieved the strongest growth in this quarter, with an increase of 13%, and the growth of Chromebook and educational demand played a role in promoting Acer's growth.
