Shared Bikes' Price Increases in Multiple Cities in China

TapTechNews July 29th news, according to the 'Beijing Youth Daily' report, shared bike brands such as Hello and Qingju in cities like Chengdu, Guangzhou, and Wuhan have adjusted the starting price on weekdays from '1.5 yuan for the first 15 minutes' to '1.5 yuan for the first 10 minutes'. After exceeding 10 minutes, the fee is 1 yuan for every 15 minutes. After the adjustment, the cost of riding for one hour has increased from 4.5 yuan to 5.5 yuan. Moreover, on holidays and weekends in Guangzhou and Chengdu, the first 10 minutes cost 1.8 yuan, and then 1 yuan for every 15 minutes. According to this calculation, it is about 5.8 yuan for one hour. Nanjing, Wuhan, Xi'an and other places have also adopted similar different billing strategies for weekdays and rest days.

According to TapTechNews' understanding, since the establishment of the first Internet shared bike enterprise in 2014, the industry has gone through ten years. Users' evaluations of shared bikes have changed from the initial 'cheap and convenient' to 'almost unaffordable' now. In the early days of 2015 and 2016, the price of shared bikes was very low, and a single ride only cost 0.5 yuan. However, with the industry consolidation and cost increase, shared bike enterprises have gradually adjusted the price strategy. Now, the starting price has generally increased to 1.5 yuan, and some enterprises have even shortened the starting time to 10 minutes, and the cost of riding for one hour in some areas is close to 6 US dollars.

Regarding the price increase, users have different attitudes. Some users think that shared bikes provide the convenience that buses and subways cannot cover, and they are still willing to pay even if the price goes up. However, there are also users who think that after the price increase, shared bikes have lost the advantage of being economical and affordable.
