TapTechNews June 20th news, the world's first 100 megawatt-hour intelligent string-type grid-forming energy storage power station - the Golmud Luneng 50 megawatts/100 megawatt-hour grid-forming energy storage power station in Qinghai has been officially put into operation recently.
According to TapTechNews' inquiry, this project is located in the Photovoltaic Industry Park of Golmud City, Haixi Mongolian-Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, and it is general contracted by East China Institute under PowerChina. The construction scale is 50 megawatts/100 megawatt-hour, which is composed of 50 2-megawatt-hour intelligent string-type battery cabins and 600 200-kilowatt grid-forming voltage source converters.
It is introduced that, different from conventional grid-following energy storage power stations that rely on real-time voltage and frequency data of the power grid to adjust the power output, the grid-forming energy storage power station adopts an intelligent photovoltaic storage generator solution that can independently adjust voltage and frequency; after being connected to the grid, it can increase the new energy access ratio of the Qinghai Power Grid by 40%, which is equivalent to saving 21,450 tons of standard coal and reducing 53,480 tons of carbon dioxide.
