Revenue Changes of Top Five WFE Manufacturers in 2024 Q1

According to TapTechNews on June 20th, the market research institute CounterpointResearch released a blog post today stating that due to customers' postponement of investment in cutting-edge semiconductors, the revenue of the world's top five wafer equipment (WFE) manufacturers in the first quarter of 2024 decreased by 9% year-on-year.

TapTechNews note: Among the top five, ASML's revenue decreased by 21% quarter-on-quarter and 26% year-on-year, while KLA's decreased by 14% quarter-on-quarter and 5% year-on-year. Compared to 2023, the revenue of Applied Materials, LamResearch, and KLA decreased by single digits quarter-on-quarter.

Thanks mainly to the increase in DRAM shipments from China, the revenue of the top five WFE manufacturers from China in the first quarter of 2024 increased by 116% year-on-year. The demand for key and mature nodes in application fields such as the Internet of Things, automobiles, and 5G is strong and may continue in the second half of this year.

In the first quarter of 2024, due to the increase in NAND spending and the strong DRAM demand brought about by the growing popularity of artificial intelligence, the memory revenue of the top five WFE manufacturers increased by 33% year-on-year. Due to customers' delayed investment in cutting-edge semiconductors, the revenue of the foundry business decreased by 29% year-on-year.
