Chinese Academy of Sciences Tops 2024 Nature Index Research Leaders List
TapTechNews June 21st news, on June 18th US time, the 2024 Nature Index Research Leaders (previously known as the Nature Index Annual List) was released, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences continued to rank first globally.
According to the previously released Nature Index data, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has continuously ranked first globally in this ranking for twelve consecutive years. The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Science and Technology of China rose to the fourth and fifth places globally.
This latest Nature Index list is based on the statistical data from January 1 to December 31, 2023, showing the high-level scientific research output situation of different countries and scientific research institutions in the field of natural sciences and health sciences globally.
The ranking shows that the Chinese Academy of Sciences topped the comprehensive ranking of global scientific research institutions, and its contribution share in 2023 is almost twice that of the second-ranked Harvard University in the US. The Chinese Academy of Sciences continues to rank first globally in three disciplines of chemistry, physical sciences, and earth and environmental sciences, and rises by two places to rank second in the life sciences field.

The latest list shows that the top ten countries with high-quality scientific research output are China, the US, Germany, the UK, Japan, France, Canada, South Korea, India, and Switzerland. Compared with 2022, China's adjusted share increased by 13.6%, and the increase rate is second only to India's 14.5% among the top ten countries.
The Nature Index mainly adopts two scientific research output calculation criteria of the number of papers and contribution share, and tracks scientific research papers published in 145 high-quality natural science and health science journals through a database including author unit information and institutional relationships.
