This new feature allows users to open and operate a 2D window simultaneously in immersive VR applications to browse any content. This means that players can enjoy classic flat games or watch live broadcasts while waiting for the game to load.

This addition of this function will open up completely new application scenarios for the Quest head-mounted display. For example, when encountering difficulties in a puzzle game, users can directly call out the tutorial video; VR live streaming platforms can simultaneously display materials such as articles and videos to facilitate real-time access to information for the anchors.

The addition of the multitasking function has significantly expanded the usage scenarios of Meta's head-mounted display, making it gradually approach the experience of PC-side VR head-mounted displays. Meta has previously demonstrated the technology of running SteamLink and AppleMusic simultaneously on Quest3 and AppleVisionPro, and this update further realizes the overlay of a single 2D window in VR applications.

TapTechNews needs to remind that this function is currently in the experimental testing stage and may have instability. Users need to install the latest public beta version v69 and restart the device, and then enable this function in the experimental settings. Meta usually rolls out major updates gradually, so it may take some time before this function is officially released.
