China Releases the First RISC-V Cloud Computing Test Platform 'Beihai'

TapTechNews August 27th news, at the 2024 4th RISC-V China Summit from August 21st to 23rd, the China Telecom Research Institute, the Institute of Software of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Telecom Tianyi Cloud, Ali DAMO Academy, Beijing Kai Core Institute, Sianeng Technology, and Ximu Computing jointly released the industry's first RISC-V cloud computing test platform Beihai.

This platform aims to deploy RISC-V CPU and cloud computing multi-computing power infrastructure such as TPU, NPU, VPU, etc., and also supports the test and verification of advanced RISC-V chip IP prototypes. This platform will be open to the whole society for use.

According to the China Post and Telecommunication News, Beihai platform realizes the industry's first full-stack RISC-V-based cloud native computing platform verification. This platform realizes the RISC-V architecture adaptation of cloud native core software such as container orchestration and network management, and completes the test and verification of various commercial-level functions such as multi-tenant isolation, cluster management, application management, and application market.

The Beihai platform loads and runs an AI large model for the first time based on a RISC-V server. The China Telecom Research Institute jointly with the Institute of Software of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Sianeng Technology, Ximu Computing, etc. carried out the adaptation and verification of domestic AI accelerator cards such as TPU and NPU, and successfully completed the deployment and operation of large models such as GLM and Llama2.

Beihai platform completes the industry's first RISC-V VPU video transcoding card TeleVPU technology research and development and verification for cloud computing. TeleVPU has the transcoding + AI dual capabilities, which can provide high-density and low-cost video transcoding and AI compression capabilities for massive video processing scenarios.

TapTechNews note: RISC-V is an open-source instruction set architecture (ISA) based on the principle of reduced instruction set (RISC), and the ecosystem is currently in the early stage of development. Many enterprises and institutions in China have already made efforts in the RISC-V industry. Ali DAMO Academy's Xiantie also released a new RISC-V processor design R908 together at the 2024 4th RISC-V China Summit.
