China Releases New National Standard for New Energy Vehicle Safety Inspection

TapTechNews August 27th news, according to the National Standard Information Public Service Platform, on August 23rd, the national standard Operation Safety Performance Inspection Procedure for New Energy Vehicles was released and will be officially implemented on March 1, 2025.

The competent department of this standard is the Ministry of Public Security, and the main drafting units include the Institute of Traffic Management Science of the Ministry of Public Security, China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd., Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau Traffic Patrol Police Corps, Doron Technology Co., Ltd., and Shijiazhuang City Huayan Traffic Technology Co., Ltd.

This will become the first safety inspection standard specifically for new energy vehicles in China. TapTechNews learned from querying the standard file that the safety (charging) test of the power battery and the electrical safety test will become compulsory inspection items, and the safety characteristics such as the drive motor, the electric control system, and the electrical safety will also be adjusted and tested, which is applicable to the operation safety performance inspection of in-use pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid (including extended-range) vehicles.
