AMOLED Shipments Surpass TFTLCD in Q1 2024

TapTechNews June 26 news, the market research organization Omdia released a report yesterday stating that in the first quarter of 2024, the shipments of AMOLED for smartphones surpassed those of TFTLCD screens for the first time, accounting for 51%, and it is expected to achieve a surpass in annual shipments as well.

The shipments of AMOLED for smartphones increased to 182 million units, a year-on-year increase of 39%.

The shipments of TFTLCD for smartphones decreased to 172 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 10%.

TapTechNews noted that Omdia estimated that AMOLED screens will account for 53% of the shipments of smartphone screens in the second quarter, and expand to 56% in the third quarter.

Hiroshi Hayase of this analysis organization said:

The launch of iPhone 16 series will significantly increase the shipments of AMOLED in the fourth quarter of 2024, and AMOLED is expected to surpass TFTLCD screens in the entire year of 2024. AMOLED will lead the shipments in the smartphone screen market starting from 2024.
