Sony's PlayStation History From Planned Cooperation with Nintendo to Solo Development

TapTechNews August 25th, Sony once planned to cooperate with Nintendo to develop the first-generation PlayStation game console in the 1990s, but later the cooperation broke down and Sony finally chose to develop the machine by itself.

Before the cooperation broke down, Sony had jointly developed a special PlayStation prototype console with Nintendo. It was rumored that only 200 units were produced that year. After the cooperation broke down, most of them were destroyed, leaving only a few prototypes. One of the consoles was sold for 360,000 US dollars (TapTechNews note: currently about 2.567 million yuan) in March 2020.

In the auction documents, Heritage Auctions specifically reminded bidders that since there was a lack of hardware to test the controller, it was non-returnable once sold. At the same time, the auction house also emphasized the rarity of the controller, indicating that it was not sure whether there would still be an opportunity to provide any items related to the related PlayStation prototype in the future.
