Earlier today, it was reported that ByteDance is cooperating with the US company Broadcom to develop an AI processor to ensure there are a sufficient number of high-end chips. People familiar with the matter had said that the AI processor has a process node of 5 nanometers and will be manufactured by TSMC. Although the design work is progressing smoothly, the tape-out, which marks the end of the design stage and the beginning of manufacturing, has not yet begun. It is understood that ByteDance and Broadcom have always been business partners, and Broadcom had stated in its statement that ByteDance purchased its Tomahawk 5-nanometer chip and its Bailly switch for AI computer clusters. The cooperation between ByteDance and Broadcom will help significantly reduce the procurement cost and ensure a stable supply of high-end chips. TapTechNews noted that ByteDance has continuously exerted efforts in the AI field in recent years and established a new department, Flow, in November last year, which focuses on the research and development of the application layer of AI large models. The Flow department belongs to ByteDance's Product Development and Engineering Division (internally referred to as PDI), and currently has four major business lines, including AI education, internationalization, community, and Doubao.
