AMD Ryzen 9000 Desktop Processor to Feature Improved 'Effective Frequency'

TapTechNews June 13 - According to foreign media Tom'sHardware, David McAfee, general manager of AMD's client channel business, recently said that the Ryzen 9000 desktop processor will have a more excellent 'effective frequency' performance.

Compared to the Ryzen 7000 series desktop processor, the Ryzen 9000 series desktop processor has only a slight increase of 0.1GHz in the 'boost frequency' for the 6/8-core models, and the base frequency has regressed overall. However, the TDP power of the 12-core and below models has been reduced to a certain extent at the same time:

McAfee explained this change that compared to the previous-generation product, the 'Ryzen 9000 series desktop processor has improvements in both the thermal design and the top cover heat transfer efficiency', which means it has better heat dissipation performance at high frequencies and the frequency is more difficult to reduce.

In other words, the Ryzen 9000 series desktop processor can maintain high frequencies more durably and run faster in actual loads, and the overall 'effective frequency' is higher.

Ultimately, AMD can improve the CPU's frequency performance in real-world scenarios without increasing power consumption and heat output.

McAfee also said, 'We are reducing the TDP because it turns out that our eight cores are very good and we don't need a higher TDP, so I think this is a very sharp contrast.'

And in terms of architecture, AMD's Ryzen 9000 series desktop processor has nearly double the L1 and L2 cache bandwidth. AMD claims that the CPU has improved IPC by 16%.

All these factors combined will significantly enhance the game scene performance of the Ryzen 9000 series desktop processor. However, according to TapTechNews' previous report, its game performance is still slightly behind that of the Ryzen 7000X3D series processor.
