TapTechNews August 1st news, according to CCTV News reports, on July 31st, the Jicuobaimegawatt wind power energy storage integration project, the world's highest altitude wind storage integration project, officially started construction in Naqu, Tibet.

The project is located in the Seni District of Naqu, Tibet. The wind turbines are built between an altitude of 15,942 feet to 16,818 feet, with an average altitude of 16,404 feet. It is a power guarantee project and key construction project in the Tibet Autonomous Region. It is also the first wind power project to complete the record and start construction in 2024 in the Tibet Autonomous Region, and it is also a supporting new energy project of the renewable energy integration base in the Yigong Zangbo River Basin.

TapTechNews learned through inquiry that the project plans to build 18 wind turbines with a single-unit capacity of 5.6 megawatts, with a total installed capacity of 100 megawatts. At the same time, the supporting energy storage system is configured with a 20-megawatt/80-megawatt-hour grid-forming energy storage, which can output 80,000 kilowatt-hours continuously for 4 hours. A new 220-kilovolt substation will be built.

The Jicuobaimegawatt wind power energy storage integration project has a total investment of 96.88 million US dollars and is planned to be fully completed and put into production by the end of 2025. After it is put into production, it can provide about 237 million kilowatt-hours of clean electric energy annually, save about 72,000 tons of standard coal, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 196,000 tons.

According to the introduction of the Naqu Municipal Development and Reform Commission, the completion of the project has important demonstration significance for promoting the research and development of ultra-high altitude wind turbine units and the large-scale development of wind power projects in Naqu City. It has important significance for improving the regional energy structure, ensuring winter heating and power supply, and promoting rural revitalization and economic and social development.
