TapTechNews learned that for some vehicles within the recall range due to the variable valve lift software problem, when the on-board diagnostic system (OBD) detects a failure in the variable valve lift function, the software program may get stuck or freeze, resulting in the OBD fault indicator light not being able to be lit as required and causing the intake valve working stroke to reach the maximum, and the emission value relatively increases, with an unreasonable emission risk.

In this regard, BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. stated that it will upgrade the software for the vehicles within the recall range free of charge to eliminate the risk of unreasonable emissions.
