Tesla Loses Top AI Engineer Amidst Layoffs and Low Morale

TapTechNews reported on May 15th that Tesla recently lost a top AI engineer in the field of autonomous driving - Paril Jain. Jain previously served as the technical lead for the 'planning, imitation learning, and reinforcement learning' department of Tesla's AI team. His departure comes at a time when Tesla is undergoing large-scale layoffs and low employee morale, raising concerns about the future of Tesla's autonomous driving project.

TapTechNews noted that in recent weeks, Tesla has conducted several rounds of layoffs across various departments. In addition to layoffs, there are reports of some employees choosing to leave the company due to low morale. All signs indicate that Tesla is experiencing a talent exodus.

Having worked at Tesla for nine years, Paril Jain was a key member of the company's autonomous driving project. His recent team led efforts in 'building autonomous driving foundational models that scale across cars and humanoid robots' and 'constructing robust and scalable end-to-end learning autonomous driving systems using millions of miles of driving data and intervention information'.

Today, Jain announced his departure from Tesla to co-found a robotics startup called 'TheBotCompany' with Twitch and Cruise co-founder Kyle Vogt. Jain stated that he and Vogt are committed to making people's lives easier and more convenient.

According to Teslarati, despite Jain's appreciation for the Tesla team and their creation of 'the best autonomous driving product on the market', and his excitement for the upcoming V12 version and 'truly intelligent summon' feature, his departure still indicates a talent drain in Tesla's autonomous driving team leadership. Teslarati suggests that this casts a shadow over whether Tesla's autonomous driving technology can make breakthrough progress and fulfill the many promises it has made.
