OpenAI to suspend ChatGPT's 'Sky' voice amid dispute with Scarlett Johansson

TapTechNews May 21st news, as TapTechNews previously reported, OpenAI announced that it will suspend the Sky voice of ChatGPT, because users pointed out that the voice is very similar to that of actress Scarlett Johansson.

OpenAI stated in a blog post that Sky is one of the five available voices and its source is an actress, but it is not deliberately imitating Scarlett Johansson. Scarlett Johansson starred in the movie Her, in which she played the virtual assistant system that made the male lead fall in love.

CNN reported that Scarlett Johansson released a statement last night, saying that OpenAI contacted her in September last year, hoping to provide her voice. OpenAI CEO Altman felt that through her dubbing, it could bridge the gap between tech companies and creative people and help consumers feel comfortable in the face of the great changes between humans and artificial intelligence.

She said that after careful consideration and for personal reasons, she refused this request, but when she heard the demonstration voice at the press conference, she felt shocked, angry and unbelievable. Her friends and news media could not distinguish the demonstration voice at the press conference from her own voice.

Altman even hinted that this similarity is intentional. He tweeted a word Her - this is a reference to the dubbing of the chat system Samantha in the movie Her, which formed an intimate relationship with humans.

Two days before the press conference, Altman contacted Scarlett Johansson's agent, hoping she would reconsider. But before Scarlett Johansson contacted him, the press conference had already taken place. She had to hire a legal adviser and require OpenAI to elaborate on the specific process of how they created the Sky voice, and finally OpenAI reluctantly agreed to change the Sky voice.
