It is reported that Samsung has long been optimistic about the future development of HBM, and has cooperated with NVIDIA to develop HBM and HBM2, but the initial sales volume is not large and it has been in a loss state continuously.

The HBM team of Samsung then changed to a new employer and transferred to SK Hynix to continue the research and development. And under the generative AI wave, the demand for HBM has increased sharply, and SK Hynix has benefited from it and become the industry leader, giving a feeling of 'picking the fruit'.

Although Samsung has made years of efforts, it has suffered setbacks when the market takes off. TapTechNews previously reported that Samsung's HBM memory chip failed the NVIDIA test due to heat and power consumption issues, and then the Samsung official responded that they are 'moothly conducting the HBM chip test process' with multiple global partners, and at the same time emphasized that 'they are continuously cooperating with other business partners to ensure product quality and reliability'.

News also said that since the Samsung HBM failed the NVIDIA test, the head of Samsung's semiconductor department was replaced, and Samsung is taking a different path to catch up.

The president of SiliconMotion, a giant in memory integrated circuit design, Wallace C. Kou, pointed out that the market still needs Samsung.

Kou believes that Samsung is the largest memory producer in the world. Due to the shortage problem of AI chips faced by NVIDIA, NVIDIA is eager to cooperate with more suppliers. Therefore, it is only a matter of time before Samsung provides HBM to NVIDIA.
