TapTechNews reported yesterday that Qualcomm is providing test samples of Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen3 (SXR2330) and XR2+ Gen3 chips (SXR2350) to VR head-mounted display manufacturers. The relevant chip code name is ProjectMatrix, which supports 16GB of RAM, UFS4.0, and a single-eye 4K panel.

MetaQuest3 uses Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen2 chip, and the XR2 Gen3 (SXR2330) exposed this time is the successor chip. Another interesting point is that currently Qualcomm has not launched the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen2 chip, and there has been no relevant exposure information before. Therefore, when companies like Samsung adopt the XR2+ Gen3 chip, it is equivalent to skipping a generation, which is very much anticipated.

The media speculates that companies such as Samsung, Sony, and HTC may all postpone the release date of the relevant head-mounted display equipment and plan to equip the XR2+ Gen3 chipset to enhance the competitive strength with Apple's VisionPro.

XR expert Brad Lynch said that the third-generation product supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and the Oryon CPU core (also equipped on the Snapdragon XElite), and Roland Quandt also agrees.
