Boeing Workers' Strike in US Updates and Proposals

TapTechNews September 24th news, 33,000 Boeing employees in the Seattle area and Oregon in the US went on strike starting at midnight local time on September 13th, causing about 100 million US dollars (currently about 706 million yuan) in losses to Boeing every day. Meanwhile, Boeing is taking a series of measures to cut costs and save cash.

On Monday local time, Boeing presented a best and final version of the plan to the striking workers, which included higher salary increases and higher bonuses, but the union said the proposal was not good enough and would not hold an approval vote before Boeing's deadline.

According to a letter sent by Boeing to officials of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, if employees accept the proposal by local time Friday, Boeing will restore performance bonuses, increase retirement benefits, and double the approval bonus to 6,000 US dollars (currently about 42,341 yuan).

In addition, Boeing's new proposal includes a 30% salary increase in four years, higher than the 25% in the first proposal (TapTechNews note: The union initially demanded a 40% salary increase in three years).

Boeing said that by the end of the four-year contract, the average annual salary of engineers will increase from the current 75,608 US dollars (currently about 534,000 yuan) to 111,155 US dollars (currently about 784,000 yuan).

Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg told employees on September 20th local time that although the company was disappointed that the discussions with the union had not made more progress, Boeing still remains very committed to reaching an agreement as soon as possible, and thousands of employees began to take leave that day. In addition, Boeing also said it will stop paying its health insurance on September 30th.
