TapTechNews noticed that in a post titled Samsung Technology is Helping Police Authorities Protect Public Safety in the Samsung Newsroom, Samsung stated that two police departments in Missouri participated in a pilot project to integrate the ZFlip into daily law enforcement work, which is the first time a folding screen phone is used as a police执法 recorder. Subsequently, two more police departments joined this project.

In order to meet the needs of policing, Samsung cooperated with a professional law enforcement equipment supplier named VisualLabs to customize the phone. This includes remapping the external volume key as the emergency video start key, and automatically starting the video recording when in a vehicle chase or with the police lights on, etc.. The recorded video can be uploaded to the cloud immediately through VisualLabs' software.

Samsung said that the folding design of the ZFlip series makes it easy to carry and attach to the police uniform, and can clearly record details of arrests and other interactions, improving evidence collection and transparency. In addition to being used as a law enforcement recorder, it can also be used to photograph crime scene evidence, record audio for evidence collection, and locate the position of police officers through GPS.

Currently, this solution has been extended to 25 metropolitan police departments in five states. Samsung said it will continue to be committed to providing relevant tools for more US police departments. VisualLabs also cooperates with T-Mobile to provide an Android smartphone law enforcement recorder solution for the law enforcement sector.

It is worth noting that currently the US law enforcement recorder market is still dominated by companies such as Axon and Motorola.
