Google Releases GeminiLive Service at Pixel9 Series Phone Launch

TapTechNews August 14th news, Google at today's Pixel9 series phone launch event, released the GeminiLive service, which will be initially open to English-speaking GeminiAdvanced subscription users starting today.

Promoting natural and smooth conversation communication

Google said that GeminiLive provides a mobile conversation experience that allows users to have a free-flowing conversation with Gemini.

GeminiLive can be said to be benchmarked against OpenAIChatGPT's newly launched AdvancedVoice mode (limited Alpha test), using an enhanced voice engine that can conduct more coherent, more emotionally expressive, and more realistic multi-round conversations.

Google said that users can interrupt the chatbot while it is speaking and ask follow-up questions, and the chatbot will adapt to the user's speaking pattern in real time.

Through GeminiLive [using the Gemini application], users can have a conversation with Gemini and choose from [10 new] natural voices that it can respond with.

Users can even speak at their own pace or interrupt and ask clarifying questions in the middle of the answer, just like in a human conversation.

A Google spokesperson said:

Live uses our GeminiAdvanced model, and we have adjusted it to be more conversational. When users have a long conversation with Live, the large context window of that model will be used.

No multi-modal input support

GeminiLive does not yet have one of the functions that Google demonstrated at the I/O conference: multi-modal input.

Google released a prerecorded video in May this year, showing GeminiLive seeing and reacting to the user's surroundings through photos and videos captured by the phone camera, such as naming the parts on a broken bicycle or explaining what part of the code on a computer screen does.

Google said that multi-modal input will be launched later this year, but refused to disclose specific details.
