Acer and Indkal Technologies Sign Agreement to Enter Indian Smartphone Market

TapTechNews July 16th news, according to Indian media The Economic Times and Gadgets360, the Indian enterprise Indkal Technologies signed an authorized cooperation agreement with Acer on the 11th of this month, to design, manufacture and sell Acer-branded smartphone products in India.

This agreement is not the first cooperation between Indkal, an Indian tech startup, and Acer: Indkal has already obtained Acer's authorization in 2021 to launch Acer-branded TV and other products in the Indian market:

Indkal said that its Acer-branded smartphone products are for the mid-range market in India, with prices ranging from 15,000 to 50,000 Indian rupees (TapTechNews note: currently about 170 to 590 US dollars), featuring cutting-edge hardware and advanced software, and the first batch of models will be launched in the middle of this year.

The Indian media Gadgets360 said that Indkal has set a goal of manufacturing 1 million devices per year, and is also applying for funding from the Indian government's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.

Acer's vice president of global strategic alliances, Jade Zhou, said:

We are very pleased that Indkal Technologies will further fulfill this mission in India, providing various Acer-branded smartphones, expanding the range of choices for end users and enriching their experience in the Indian market.

Acer once joined the smartphone market in the 2010s, launched Windows Mobile and Android system phones, and even had cooperation attempts with Alibaba on Aliyun system phones in the early days, but gradually withdrew from this field.
