China Mobile Joins OIN to Promote Open Source Technology

TapTechNews July 16th news, according to China.com, China Mobile officially joined the organization - OIN (OpenInventionNetwork) that focuses on reducing the patent risk of open source software, becoming the first communication operator in China to join OIN.

It is introduced that OIN has the largest and oldest patent cross-licensing platform in the world. Any party joining the OIN licensing platform can obtain the cross-license of Linux system patents to follow the principle of non-infringement of patents in core Linux technology and related open source technologies.

TapTechNews learned from the official website of OIN that domestic enterprises such as Alibaba, Tencent, Huawei, BYD, Xiaomi, ByteDance, Baidu, Haier, and SAIC are all members of OIN.

Liu Jia, deputy general manager of China Mobile's Technology Innovation Department, said: After China Mobile joins OIN, it will not only continue to support the innovative practice of open source projects as always, but also work with OIN and its members to jointly promote the high-level implementation of the Linux system and its open source technologies and jointly maintain the healthy development of the open source ecosystem.

The CEO of OIN, Keith Bergelt, said: I am very glad to have a world-leading enterprise like China Mobile join OIN. I believe their joining will set an example for all mobile communication service providers in supporting the non-infringement of open source technology patents.
