Sony Reports PS5 Shipments of 59.3 Million Units in 2023 Fiscal Year Q4

Sony announced its financial report for the fourth quarter of the 2023 fiscal year on May 14 at TapTechNews, with global shipments of PS5 reaching 59.3 million units as of March 31, 2024. In the three months ending March 31, 2024, PS5 shipments were 4.5 million, a decrease of 1.8 million compared to the same period last year. The total shipments of PS5 for the fiscal year reached 20.8 million, an increase of 1.7 million year-on-year. Sony expects PS5 sales for the current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2025) to be around 18 million units, marking a year-on-year decline for the first time. As of March 31, 2024, the number of monthly active users on PSN reached 118 million, an increase of 10 million compared to the same period last fiscal year. In the previous fiscal quarter, the total sales of PS5 and PS4 game software reached 72.6 million, an increase of 4.6 million compared to the same period last fiscal year. First-party game sales reached 12.3 million, an increase of 2.8 million compared to the same period last fiscal year. 77% of the software sales came from digital downloads, a 7% increase compared to the same period last fiscal year. Sony stated that Horizon Forbidden West 2 has become the fastest-selling game in PlayStation history, with sales far exceeding expectations, selling 12 million copies on PC and PS5 in the 12 weeks since its launch.
