Polestar Hires Former Volkswagen and Audi Designer Philip Römer to Lead Design Team

Römer was previously the chief designer at Volkswagen and Audi, known for designing the seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf and the Audi e-tron GT.

Römer takes over from Maximilian Missoni, who has been the design head of Polestar for the past six years. Before that, he worked at Volvo for eight and a half years and at Volkswagen for ten years, holding various design positions.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said on Wednesday: Thank you to Max for his leadership and companionship during Polestar's establishment as the only pure electric vehicle brand in Europe. He helped Polestar set the design standard, making Polestar stand out in terms of luxury and performance.

Ingenlath welcomes Römer's joining, saying his modern approach and luxury car experience will help Polestar take the next step in developing our model lineup.

Römer's most famous work is the seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf. After joining Volkswagen in 2006, his design was selected for the Golf in 2009. Then he jumped to Audi and designed models such as the A6, A8, and e-Tron GT.

This recruitment comes at a critical moment as Polestar enters the next growth stage. After delivering the first batch of Polestar 4 models in Europe this week, the Swedish electric vehicle brand expands from a single-model lineup to a three-model lineup.

Polestar said that the Polestar 4 is expected to start deliveries in North America and Australia by the end of this year, with a starting price of $56,300 in the US (TapTechNews note: currently about 402,000 yuan), and a range of 300 miles (about 482.8 kilometers), becoming a competitor to the latest Tesla Model Y.

By 2026, Polestar plans to have a five-model lineup of luxury performance electric vehicles. Polestar said that the electric four-door GT (Polestar 5) and the electric convertible (Polestar 6) are coming soon.

After selling 54,626 vehicles last year, Polestar expects to sell 155,000 vehicles next year.
