2025 QS World University Rankings Released Chinese Mainland Universities Shine

TapTechNews June 5th news, early this morning Beijing time, the international higher education research institution QS Quacquarelli Symonds released the 2025 QS World University Rankings.

According to the introduction, this ranking covers 1,500 universities from 106 higher education systems. The ranking is based on 17 million research papers, 176 million citations (excluding self-citations), 1.9 million academic responses, 660,000 employer responses, data from 5,600 institutions worldwide, 230,000 individual data, in-depth insights from 175,798 scholars and 105,476 employers, and many other aspects.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology topped the list for the 13th consecutive year, and the Imperial College London returned to the second place in the overall ranking after 2014. The University of Oxford ranked third, Harvard University ranked fourth, and the University of Cambridge ranked fifth. Peking University and Tsinghua University ranked among the top 20 in the world. Peking University's ranking rose from the 17th in the world last year to the 14th in the world; Tsinghua University ranked 20th in the world.

It is reported that in this ranking, nearly 70% of universities in the Chinese mainland saw their rankings rise; Tsinghua University returned to the top 20 in the world; the ranking of Peking University further climbed. Five universities in the Chinese mainland ranked among the top 50 in the world, and the rankings of four of them rose; universities in the Chinese mainland performed outstandingly in terms of research influence, demonstrating their strong research strength. In Asian countries and regions with ten or more universities on the list, the Chinese mainland stood out with the highest average citations per faculty score (61.5).

The universities in the Chinese mainland that entered the top 200 in the world include Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, University of Science and Technology of China, Nanjing University, Tongji University and Wuhan University.
