Google Updates for Pixel Phones Gemini Nano Access, Feature Enhancements, and Security Patches

TapTechNews June 13th news, Google recently pushed the quarterly feature update for June to its Pixel phone series and officially added local access support for the Gemini Nano model to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a models.

Previously, only the Pixel 8 Pro with 12GB of memory could access the Gemini Nano model locally, while the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a models with 8GB of memory were temporarily excluded.

Currently, local access to the Gemini Nano model for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a is still not enabled by default, users need to manually enable this new feature on the Developer Options page.

The entire Pixel 8 series phones also received some other feature updates together, including:

The summary function driven by Gemini in the Recorder recording app now provides a more detailed downloadable summary and can distinguish multiple conversation participants;

The USB Type-C interface supports DP Alt output, which enables the Pixel 8 series phones to now connect to a larger screen;

The Find My Device feature can now locate phones that have been powered off or without power for up to 23 hours.

For the Pixel Fold and Pixel 6 and newer phones, they received two feature updates:

Automatically identify the best moment for face effect in HDR+ photo shooting;

The call log interface supports quick search for unknown phone numbers.

In addition, the four flagship models of Pixel Fold, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel 8 Pro can specify which lens to use when taking rear-camera photos after the update.

TapTechNews noticed that Google also recently pushed the June security update for its Pixel devices, in addition to the patches for all Android devices, it also additionally repaired 50 vulnerabilities.

Google warns that one of the privilege escalation vulnerabilities CVE-2024-32896 related to the Pixel device firmware may have been exploited in a targeted but limited manner.
