Apple to Expand quadruple-reflecting-prism telephoto lens to iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max

TapTechNews August 27th news, according to the Korean media TheElec, Apple plans to expand the quadruple-reflecting-prism telephoto lens (Tetraprism Telephoto lens), which was previously only used for the iPhone 15 Pro Max, to both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models this year. The report said that Apple will continue to rely on LG Innotek to supply the initial batch of folding zoom modules.

According to TapTechNews, the quadruple-reflecting-prism telephoto lens adopts a folded glass structure, and this technology is also called Tetraprism by Apple. It makes the optical path longer by reflecting the light four times while keeping the space unchanged, thereby achieving a longer 120-millimeter focal length. Both the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will offer 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom.

Apple has adopted a 3D sensor-shift optical image stabilization technology on the telephoto lens of the iPhone 15 Pro Max model, which can be displaced in all three directions to achieve stabilization, thereby achieving twice as much fine-tuning as before and being able to take clear photos even when zoomed in to the maximum.

It is expected that after the initial inventory is depleted (about the fourth quarter), Apple will turn to its secondary suppliers Foxconn and Cowell e Holdings to produce folding zoom modules to reduce costs. At the same time, Sharp is not expected to supply camera modules for any iPhone models released this year.
