But in macOS Sequoia Beta 6, Apple changed this strategy and adjusted the pop-up frequency to once a month, and no longer requires users to re-authorize after each restart of the Mac.

The initial weekly pop-up authorization plan of Apple has triggered a large number of objections from Mac users. Apple seems to have listened to these feedbacks and decided to extend the authorization period to one month as a compromise.

According to TapTechNews, in macOS Sequoia Beta 6, users will see a new pop-up prompt: “[Application name] requests to bypass the system privacy window selector and directly access your screen and audio. This will allow [application name] to record your screen and system audio, including potentially visible or audible personal or sensitive information.” Users can choose “Allow for one month” or click “Open System Settings” to directly enter the screen recording permission setting panel.

It should be noted that this change is currently limited to macOS Sequoia 15.0 Beta 6 and the latest public beta version, and has not been implemented in the macOS Sequoia 15.1 test version.

Apple has not detailed whether developers can use APIs or permissions to prevent their applications from showing this pop-up monthly. Multiple developers told 9to5Mac that even applications using the new framework ScreenCaptureKit introduced in macOS 12 will be affected.

This change will have an impact on many applications, including third-party screenshot tools such as CleanShotX, as well as screen-sharing applications such as WebEx, Discord, Zoom, and Slack. Other applications that use screen recording permission, such as the menu bar tool Bartender, will also be affected.
