CATL and Jiangxi Transportation Investment Group Sign a Strategic Cooperation Agreement to Jointly Build a Charging and Battery Swap Network in Highway Service Areas

TapTechNews, May 11 - CATL officially announced today that it signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Jiangxi Transportation Investment Group Co., Ltd. on May 9.

Under the agreement, the two parties will jointly promote the application of new energy in multiple scenarios, including electric heavy trucks and others, and build a charging and battery swap network in highway service areas. They also aim to actively develop distributed photovoltaic and energy storage systems.

The signing ceremony was attended by Xie Jianfa, Party Secretary and Chairman of Jiangxi Transportation Investment Group, and Wu Yingming, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of CATL. Wu Ke Hai, Vice General Manager of Jiangxi Transportation Investment Group, and Ding Aijun, General Manager of Yichun CATL, represented their respective sides in signing the agreement. During the inspection, Xie Jianfa and his delegation also visited CATL’s technology showroom and battery cell production base.

TapTechNews learned that a wholly-owned subsidiary of CATL, Time Electric Service, launched the battery swap brand EVOGO (implying evolution+go) and a comprehensive battery swap solution in January 2022 which is adaptable to 80% of vehicle models.

Reportedly, the EVOGO comprehensive battery swap solution offers a 'one battery for multiple vehicles' fully adaptable scenario, supporting on-demand battery rental, and interchangeable and rechargeable batteries. The batteries can be used for passenger vehicles from A00 to B and C classes, as well as logistics vehicles. The swap stations can serve different vehicle brands using swap batteries. Customers can rent one to three batteries as needed, addressing the challenges of traditional battery swap models due to non-standard batteries.

The swap batteries will incorporate CATL's latest CTP technology, with an energy density exceeding 160Wh/kg and a volumetric energy density over 325Wh/L. A single battery can provide approximately 200 kilometers (about 124 miles) of range.
