Kioxia Urges Users to Update Firmware for Multiple M.2 NVMe SSDs

TapTechNews, Jun 20th. Earlier this month, Kioxia released an announcement urging users of several M.2 NVMe solid-state drives to update the firmware.

In this firmware update, while fixing errors, the set value of the warning compound temperature threshold (WCTEMP) defined in the identification controller data structure was changed.

The warning compound temperature threshold is part of NVMe thermal management, and the hardware platform should try to keep the compound temperature of the solid-state drive below this value and reduce the workload or conduct additional cooling when it exceeds this value.

This firmware update involves 6 M.2 NVMe solid-state drives, and also includes products from the Toshiba era. TapTechNews sorted them out as follows:

Kioxia EXCERIA PLUS G2, namely RD20;

Kioxia EXCERIA PLUS, namely RD10;

Kioxia EXCERIA G2, namely RC20;

Kioxia EXCERIA, namely RC10;

Toshiba RD500;

Toshiba RC500.
